Sanju Samson’s knee injury prevented him from playing in the remaining T20I series.
In an exciting first T20I on Tuesday in Mumbai, India edged Sri Lanka by two runs. The second T20I will now take place in Pune on Wednesday. In the first T20I, India was propelled by some late hitting from Deepak Hooda (41*), while bowler Shivam Mavi, making his debut. Impressed everyone with a final score of 4/22. The Hardik Pandya-led team has a new look, and the close victory in the first T20I will give them confidence to win the second game in the three-match series to clinch the series.
Sanju Samson, however, was ruled out for the remainder of the series on the eve of the second T20I owing to a knee injury. He was a middle-order player. To watch who replaces him in the starting XI would be interesting.
Here is our projected Indian XI for the second T20 International:
Shubman Gill: The nimble right-hander was dismissed for only 7 in the first T20I. For him to remain in the starting XI, he must perform better.
Ishan Kishan: Despite getting off to an aggressive start, the left-hander shown maturity by controlling his urges while wickets were tumbling at the other end. He used 29 balls to score 37.
The vice-captain of India failed to make an impression
Suryakumar Yadav: In the first T20I, the vice-captain of India failed to make an impression with the bat and was out for 7. He needs to perform better.
Rahul Tripathi: Rahul Tripathi appears to be a good alternative for Samson now that he has left. He has a track record of success in the IPL. Washington Sundar might also be chosen, though, if the club wishes to add an extra all-arounder.
Hardik Pandya: In the first T20I, the India captain struck 29 from 27 balls and conceded only 12 runs in three overs.
Deepak Hooda: Had it not been for his 23-ball 41*, India would not have crossed the 160-mark in the first T20I. He showed his potential once again.
Axar Patel: He scored 31 runs off only 20 balls while also contributing to a vital stand with Hooda. However, the left-arm spinner proved costly with the bat, giving up 31 runs in the first T20I’s opening three overs.
Harshal Patel: He had two wickets, but in 4 overs, he also conceded 41 runs. It’s not enough for the seasoned pacer.
Shivam Mavi: According to BCCI, Arshdeep Singh “did not fully recover from his illness” and was replaced in the starting XI by Mavi. However, the pacer’s 4/22 stats impressed everyone in his debut.
Umran Malik: He returned with figures of 2/27 in 4 overs after bowling with incredible velocity.
Yuzvendra Chahal: With 26 runs conceded in just two overs, the experienced leg-spinner was the most expensive Indian bowler.
